The comprehensive training program featured a distinguished panel of trainers, each offering their expertise in specific areas. Mr. Asanka Narayana, the General Manager of MOPA, delivered invaluable insights into the latest Fairtrade regulations, providing a comprehensive understanding of the evolving landscape of fair and ethical trade practices. His sessions equipped the participants with the knowledge required to navigate the dynamic Fairtrade standards, empowering them to uphold the highest ethical standards in their practices.


Mr. Rohan Gunarathne, the Head of Extension at MOPA’s Internal Control System, delved into the intricacies of Fairtrade and organic standards, elucidating the nuances of organic certification and the evolving requirements within the Fairtrade ecosystem. His sessions were pivotal in enriching the participants’ understanding, ensuring compliance with the latest standards and the continued integrity of organic produce and Fairtrade practices.


Additionally, Mr. Buddika from Control Union provided in-depth guidance on organic standards, further enhancing the participants’ ability to adhere to stringent organic certification requirements.


Ms. Madushika Herath, the Fairtrade Compliance Assistant, shared her expertise in navigating the complexities of Fairtrade compliance, empowering the participants to ensure adherence to Fairtrade principles.


Mr. Deshan Mahalekam, the Special Project Officer, offered a comprehensive overview of the 2021/2022 Fairtrade premium projects, providing practical insights into the impact and implementation of Fairtrade premium utilization.


Mr. Upali Gamage, the Coordinator at MOPA, actively engaged the participants in motivational activities throughout the two-day program, fostering a dynamic and engaging learning environment.


A special discussion was dedicated to the 2022/2023 Fairtrade premium utilization need assessment modal, emphasizing the identification of pressing community needs and the effective implementation of strategies to address them. This discussion served as a catalyst for innovative approaches to leverage the Fairtrade premium for sustainable community development, fostering a more equitable and prosperous environment for all stakeholders involved.


As a token at the end of the program, perennial plants were given to the participants by the General Secretary of MOPA, Mr. Senani Angammana, symbolizing growth and sustainability.
Looking ahead, the training concluded with the announcement of the next session scheduled for October 2024. This upcoming training will align with the new regulations in Fairtrade and organic standards, with a heightened focus on the implications of Fairtrade premium utilization. The anticipation for this future event reflects a collective commitment to ongoing learning and continuous improvement within the organic and Fairtrade ecosystem.
